The Importance of and Relationship of Layered Texture and Color in a Space
A very important component in the art of making a home is the importance of layering different textures and colors. Pictured here is a simple white slip covered Pottery Barn chair. By layering on an antique woven textile and and a multi-colored embroidered linen throw pillow from Coral and Tusk, this chair comes to life with a richness and becomes an inviting center point of the living space. An added bonus of layering is that it can also, protect your furniture pieces from daily wear and tear.
You will also find that when you introduce textured, soft furnishings into a space, they create relationships with the other textures in the room. Do you see how the beaded basket in the background of the photograph is in conversation with the textile laid over the chair. They have different colorations, but their different textures are in relationship and add dimension to the room.
As you build the layers of your home, be on the look out for textiles. You can have them sewn into pillows or simply drape them over furniture as shown here.
